Our Philosophy

IStranded™, we believe that individuals play games to have an experience. That’s why we like to focus more on each individual player’s story rather than their placement. After the game is said and done, all you have left is the story of what happened.

Each season we dedicate co-hosts to grilling each player on their situation to get into their heads and make them feel like their story is as important as everyone else’s. We take pride in the diversity of casting and want to make sure each player has a unique story to tell.

Because in Stranded™, it’s not simply a numbers game. We want this to be something each player can remember and discuss for years to come after playing the game. Alumni will tell you, it’s something unique that you should treasure while playing.

Our History

The host of Stranded™, Mypoody (or Poody for short), began hosting at 15 in 2004. He revolutionized gaming by taking the established formula of hosting them on discussion forums to create his own forums to host the games and have live challenges in a more condensed and intense format. The games caught on like wildfire, not without their controversies. Other players hosted games of a similar nature, and modern “reality” gaming eventually evolved into what it is today. After another three years of hosting games that involved ridiculously expansive twists and casts (upwards of 36 players in some games), the games got out of hand.

Mypoody decided it was time to create a new series. As he matured himself, so did his philosophy on gaming. The new series would be less about the size of the cast and amount of twists and more about the overall quality. Stranded™ was born with its first season: Stranded in Bolivia™ in 2007. Starting fresh with all new players who had never been in an online game before, Poody went back to the basics. Each season of Stranded from then on out would involve 100% new players to the Stranded world whether they had been in 100 games or had never even seen the show, SURVIVOR, each and every player in Stranded has never played in the series before.

Every season is unique, and as such, it requires its own theme and twists to match that theme. We sometimes spend months casting, trying to find the most unique and diverse cast possible. We like to mix seasoned players with brand new players and watch how they interact over 25+ days. Every twist is well thought out to be entirely creative and unique to each theme, thus creating an exciting game for players. We believe that if we put in the right amount of time and effort into each season that the pay off will be well worth it.

The Stranded Alumni™ now range from over 600 players across 34 seasons, each and every one of them a unique character with no one playing the series twice. It’s something the alumni of Stranded™ can be proud of. How does it Work?

The game format has been drastically modified to fit the online game world. There are often two events every day: an Immunity Challenge and a Tribal Council. One person may be voted off daily at some points in the game. We will not have a challenge or a Tribal Council on Fridays or Saturdays. On special occasions, other days of the week may be off-days, or we may only have one event on a day. To allow for intense strategy and for everyone to be online to decide, we hold Tribal Councils immediately following Immunity Challenges. Typically we will start at 8c/9e (usually, this will be the start time for Immunity Challenges lasting 30 minutes on average), and the following event will occur at 9c/10e (usually the Tribal Council Time lasting 20 minutes on average). The game will take place between 25 days and 33 days, generally averaging 30 days.

The game is held on my custom forums here on It is the typical forum set-up. There, players can send private messages to one another or groups of players. A revolutionary new feature added in the last year or so is the instant messaging system. With Instant Messages, players can message each other in a Facebook-like chat. There is a companion mobile app and desktop app as well. Players should try and message their tribe mates often to bond and form alliances, break alliances, etc… Players are given the identity of a real SURVIVOR from the television series. They will adopt their name and identity to hide their own. They do not need to act anything like their alias; it is merely there to prevent players from coming into the game with a bias against other players or with pre-game alliances. Because of this, it is imperative to keep your real identity private and only go by the alias assigned to you. Any player that breaks this rule is immediately removed from the game. All events are live, and everyone should be there to participate in most events. Challenges may be visual puzzles, races, social dynamics, and other challenging online activities to determine a winner.

Stranded is based on the reality television show SURVIVOR. We have taken the basic format and adapted it to the online world. On the television show, there are two competing tribes of 8 players. They work together to build their world while simultaneously destroying it by eliminating one of their tribemates every three days. In each of these 3-day segments, there is an Immunity Challenge. The winning tribe is immune from the vote, while the losing tribe must go to Tribal Council, where they each vote for one of their own to be voted off the island. After ten people are remaining in the game, the tribes merge. It is then an individual competition. One person wins Individual Immunity, and the rest are subject to be voted off. In the end, two players face off against a jury of the previous seven players voted off in the game, who then vote on which of the two is the winner. There have been some modifications in later editions of the game, such as larger casts, a larger merge, tribe swaps, and a final 3.

Some may argue the most significant modification to the game has come in the form of an individual Hidden Immunity Idol. The person who has found the HII may play it on themselves or someone else AFTER the votes have been cast at Tribal Council, but BEFORE they are read. Any votes cast against the person who played an HII do not count, and the person with the next most votes leaves. Voting is due 30 minutes into Tribal Councils and can be changed at any point up until then. Private Messages are turned off during Tribal Councils to prevent any strategizing and encourage players to speak during Tribal Council. Each tribe gets its own private forum and one main forum where challenges occur, and both tribes will meet.
