The premerge never settled into a simple march by original numbers. Pete’s public extra vote could change a margin but could not replace the coalition his schedule had prevented him from building. Dana’s discovery of the Glass of Water group turned private coordination into open conflict and made every later promise on Dranga harder to interpret. Sami’s idol collection forced opponents to discuss splits, transfers, and expiration dates instead of relying on a straightforward majority. Hope’s decision to reveal her idol made the advantage a loyalty test as well as protection; Katie’s idol strengthened a quieter Dawson–Katie center. Players such as Leslie, Gary, Russell, RC, Jonas, and Jean-Robert left for different reasons—social threat, exposed relationships, shifting numbers, or the repeated volatility of Viti. By the time RC became the final premerge casualty, the surviving cast had accumulated bonds from several tribe configurations, making a clean merge alliance nearly impossible.

Fourteen players reached the merge as Fossa, where old tribal names became arguments rather than fixed alliances. The first vote produced a 10–2–0 result against Liz only after competing plans targeted Hope and Erik, Hope correctly played her idol, and Erik offered a memorable stick. The demerge then removed Hope and Kenzie on the same night, severing two of the cast’s most important information routes. From there, the season became a struggle between visible power centers and players trying to survive between them. Chet’s failed attempt to redirect the vote sent him to the jury; Ozzy’s influence made him the next major target; Deshawn’s removal narrowed the field; and John and Marissa repeatedly survived despite being named as an obvious pair.

The middle merge rounds showed why no single tribal majority ever became permanent. Chet could assemble information from multiple sides but lost the only Ozzy plan that briefly had enough support when he redirected votes toward Deshawn. Ozzy survived that scramble and then became the common threat whose removal loosened the game’s central structure. Deshawn’s position repeatedly depended on other players deciding whether he was a useful bridge, an expendable name, or a shield. Sara and Dawson tried to preserve the relationships they had inherited from Hope, while Katie and Erik resisted moves that would leave them without protection. Jeff and Abi-Maria discovered that operating between groups could create influence without immediate ownership. John and Marissa remained the opposition’s easiest names, yet targeting them often required players to abandon a more urgent threat. Every successful vote solved one problem and exposed the coalition that had solved it.

The decisive rupture came at the final eight. John, Marissa, Abi-Maria, and Jeff forced a 4–4 tie against Dawson’s side, and the deadlock ended with Katie drawing the losing rock. Jeff’s willingness to risk his game transformed him from a vulnerable middle player into an endgame force. Dawson answered the loss by using Hope’s partner token as an idol at seven, protecting Sara and sending Abi-Maria out instead. At six, Erik declined another possible rock draw and joined John, Marissa, and Jeff to eliminate Sara. At five, Jeff won immunity and finally broke the John–Marissa pair by removing Marissa. At four, Jeff and John voted Dawson while Dawson and Erik voted John. Dawson won the resulting tiebreaker, ending John’s underdog run and reaching the Final Three with Erik and Jeff.
